You are here

St Cecilia's Hall

Niddry Street, Cowgate, EH1 1NQ

Originally built by the Edinburgh Musical Society in 1762, St Cecilia’s Hall is now the oldest purpose-built concert hall in Scotland and the second oldest still in use in the British Isles (after Oxford’s Holywell Room). Its unique oval 18th century auditorium is perfectly suited to small scale chamber music performances. St Cecilia’s Hall also houses one of Edinburgh University’s Museum of Instruments which holds a fine collection of early instruments. There are no catering facilities in St Cecilia’s Hall but there are many cafes and bars on the Royal Mile which is a short walk away.
